4 Mindsets That Keep You From Achieving Success
“There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge” ― Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich
In the last edition of my Winning Posture Newsletter, I talked about internal and external obstacles. Internal obstacles have to do with mindset. Mindset is formulated by habits of thoughts, otherwise known as attitudes.
Your mindset dictates your beliefs, which determine your behaviors. The more you develop your mindset, the more you can change your habits and start experiencing success and achievement.
Here are “4 mindsets examples that keep you from success”…
“It Takes Too Much Work”
Congratulations… you’ve officially self-sabotaged your potential! The truth is you’ll never achieve anything great without hard work. So many people are afraid of working hard. But, this mindset separates the successful from the regretful.
A monkey looks up at the tree and sees the banana. The monkey doesn’t say to himself “it takes too much work.” The monkey just climbs the tree and gets the banana. Success!
“No matter what it takes” … is a statement that many people are afraid of. This statement overrides laziness and procrastination. Develop the “whatever it takes” mindset.
“It’s Just Not for Me”
Most people who say this have never tried hard enough to know if something is for them or not. They may try for a week, or a month, or even a few years and then give up. Success comes when you’ve had several breaking points and several failures. The point is don’t let failures cause you to think that something is not for you.
If you believe something is not for you, then ask yourself a few questions… am I passionate about this? Do I want this, and if so, why? If you answer in the affirmative, then “it is for you.”
Don’t convince yourself something is not for you because success is not automatic.
If you can develop mental strength enough to not give up, then you can very likely achieve what you thought may have been impossible. The mind is the creator of your reality.
Being Negative – Always Looking At What Is Wrong
If you’re a negative person, then chances are you seldom believe any good can come from your efforts. Someone who is always pessimistic will see the glass “half empty” rather than “half full”. Stop it with the negativity and decide to change your perception of life.
Try this… if a negative thought comes into your mind, immediately replace it with a positive one. Write the positive thought down. This will create good habits for getting rid of the negativity.
Don’t let being positive cause you to ignore the obstacles. Being clear about what is needed to be done is not being negative. Being negative is focused on what is wrong. Being positive is focused on what and how to overcome the obstacles.
“It Won’t Happen for Me Because I Don’t Know How”
This is a big reason why people quit before they even start. You may see the success of someone and feel that it’s so out of reach. But I’ll let you in on a little secret… everyone starts off life knowing little to nothing about anything. Learning is the key word here.
Everyone must learn in order to achieve any type of success in life!
Then, when you have learned, make practical application of your knowledge.
Many people feel as if success should just be handed to them. If this is your mindset, you’ll be severely disappointed to know that it doesn’t work this way. It’s your responsibility to take the initiative to develop yourself around anything you plan on achieving.
Change Your Mindset for Success
Make the decision today to change the way your mind operates. What you think is the one thing that you have control over. You have to control it otherwise it will control you. Our default mindset is to help us survive. As a result, if you listen to your default mindset, you’ll limit yourself and never reach your full potential.
All it takes is distinguishing the mindsets that constrain you. Then, set aside time to develop your mental strength. You’ll see immediate shifts in your belief system.
Your reality is created. You get to determine who you are.
Change your mindset and you change yourself and your life! Take control and find success in your life.
